Description: Reynolds Park is one of our favorite hiking destinations because of its close proximity to Denver and its little known, little hiked, and well maintained trails.  Josh, one of the website authors, used to work for Jeffco Open Space; that's how he became so familiar with Jeffco Parks.  Camping is available during the summer at the small Idylease Campground, however, advance reservations are required.  As a side note, Jefferson County Open Space supplies paper maps at each of its major trailheads -- be sure to grab a map before you begin your trek.

From the trailhead, cross the small creek to the west, jump onto the Songbird Trail, and hike to the southeast.  Follow the Songbird Trail for .5 miles, until you eventually reach Foxton Road.

Cross the road, and begin the short, rigorous, switch-backing climb up the Hummingbird Trail.  Whatever you do, don't forget to look behind you when you reach the pinnacle of the trail -- marvelous views of the Foxton Valley, Rampart Range, and Pikes Peak lurk below and on the horizon. 

The Hummingbird Trail winds through some scrub oak before it descends back down to the trailhead where you began the hike.  The Hummingbird Trail is approximately 1.3 miles long. 

Worth Noting: Reynolds Park was once a working ranch that got its name from Mr. John A. Reynolds, who donated most of the parkland to Jefferson County Open Space.  This valley was one of the first locations settled in Colorado.  The old ranch house, which now serves as the park maintenance officer's home, was a stop for pack trains moving between Leadville and Denver.
